Ingredients: Bourbon or rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, bitters
Recipe:
- 2 oz rye whiskey
- 1 oz sweet vermouth
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
Stir the ingredients with cracked ice, then strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with an orange twist or brandied cherry
Backstory: Popular history suggests that the drink was first poured at the Manhattan Club in New York City in the mid 1870s, or other locales on the isle in the years beforehand has yet to be determined. But, there are prior references to various similar cocktail recipes called “Manhattan” and served in the Manhattan area by a bartender named Black at a bar on Broadway near Houston Street.
